Father touching his newborn daughter on her mother's chest in the delivery room in Arnhem

Two sisters, two birth stories: a second birth in Arnhem

She knew her body now. And she trusted it.

A second birth in Arnhem, three years later

Three years ago, this family welcomed their first daughter. I was there with my camera, at the very start of my journey into birth work.

A little more than three years later, their second girl was on her way, to fill their life with even more pink, as mama says.

This time, mama came with experience. She knew her body, and she trusted it. For almost twelve hours she moved, breathed and listened to herself, with papa always close. With a strength that is hard to put into words, she brought her baby girl into the world.

I was there as her doula and as her photographer. Holding space, and keeping the moments they would want to see again.

Their first daughter loves to look at her birth photos. She likes to see how she was still connected to mama by the cord. Now her little sister has her own story to look at, too.

What I will keep from this day

Two sisters, and two birth stories to grow up with.
